Why do my (Christian) teachers claim that no transitional fossils have ever been found?

I attend a private Christian school, the same one that I've attended since kindergarten, and occasionally we touch on evolution in my science cles. Obviously there is more than a bit of a bias towards creationism at my school, and evolution-bashing is more or less a bonding experience for teachers and students. I have no idea why, but I was only recently able to make the connection between my teacher's claims that no transitional fossils had ever been discovered, and the numerous articles on recently discovered transitional fossils that I had been reading in National Geographic for the last 3 years. When I asked my Science teacher about it, he said that they were just regular fossils, or that they were models of what transitional fossils. Anyway, I have an inclination to pretty much always think I'm wrong, so I have to ask if there's something I'm missing here. I'd really appreciate it if someone could clear the air for me. Thanks so much!
